Monopoly is sending one of its tokens directly to jail forever — without passing go, without collecting $200.
The iconic board game is asking its Facebook fans to vote for their favorite game piece, including the car, thimble, boot, Scottie dog, battleship, hat, iron and wheelbarrow.
The one that receives the fewest votes will be voted off the board next month.
It seems everyone has a personal connection to Monopoly’s signature game pieces. Savannah gushed on the show Thursday morning, urging viewers to cast their votes and revealing her loyalty to the thimble – but then admitted that she also likes the iron (a token likely to get voted off, according to our tally).
Joining in on the nostalgia was Natalie, who said that she and her sister used to fight over who would be the Scottie dog as children.

Hasbro is asking their Monopoly Facebook fans to vote for a new token.
As of Jan. 9, the dog and the car have garnered the most support. Fans of the wheelbarrow and hat may need to select a new game piece.
But out with the old and in with the new: Monopoly will replace the shunned piece with a cat, diamond ring, guitar, helicopter or toy robot.
This isn’t the first time Monopoly has introduced replacement tokens. According to Hasbro.com, the lantern, purse and rocking horse got the ax in the early 1950s, making way for the dog, wheelbarrow and the horse and rider (the horse eventually got booted from the box, too).
Hasbro's promotion hearkens back to M&M’s marketing stunt in 1995, when the the tan-hued chocolate candy was nixed and fans were asked to vote for a new color (the verdict was blue).
Hasbro will reveal the new token exclusively on TODAY on Feb. 6. Be sure to watch!

It's looking pretty grim, Boot!
No way. I always play as the boot. Throw out the Thimble.
Yeah, that thimble is a piece of s#it!!!!!!!
I can't believe the dog is that high. That one never gets used when we have less than 6 playing.
I hate the dog, love the thimble! (This is why they just need to keep them all--everything is somebody's favorite.)
I always liked the dog... but a robot would be cool!
A robot? When you could have a helicopter??? Whaddyakiddinme??
When was the last time anyone ironed something? Really?
I own a concrete company, the next on my list would be the wheelbarrow, because it has been years since I have seen anyone but my sons who know how to push one.
What's so wrong with the way it is now? Why can't they just leave it alone?
Carolyn: I agree, nothing is wrong with the game. But I'll bet sales are down, so the marketing dept needs some kind of gimmick to induce more sales of the game.
Monopoly has been around for quite some time, so there is a pretty good market saturation. I'm sure most households already have a copy sitting on a shelf somewhere. So, the only way to get people to buy another copy of the game is to change something. They have more than burned out the million and one themed variations, so now they are going back to an old tactic, switch up the game pieces.
john-737278, I ironed my daughter's denim skirt just the day before yesterday. I also iron my skirts and my husband's uniform shirt. Irons are still a necessity if you want to look decent...but it would still be the one I'd vote out of the game, followed by the thimble. I would want to add either the cat or the guitar.
Iron? I don't even remember the iron. Of course there were 5 of us, so it must have been deemed offensive by one of my brothers and immediately destroyed.
Get rid of; Thimble, Iron, Battleship and Wheelbarrow...Add; Robot, Ring, Cat and Helicopter.
BRILLIANT MARKETING HASBRO!
Change a simple game piece, get a ton of free press coverage. Not to mention all the people that will buy the new game just to get the new piece.
I like the ring for a new piece. Or the cat to go with the dog. The battleship always seemed out of place.
I voted to lose the battleship and for the cat. I really like the iron but I'm afraid that's the one that'll be getting the boot. :(
If you ditch the battleship for the cat you'll have the cat and dog fighting ALL through the game. Talk about WAR!
I agree, sink the battleship. It's way too disproportionate. It doesn't fit with the others. In with the cat. It balances the history of the board game. And, there are a lot of cat people.
I wonder if this is a ploy so everyone can rush to the store to buy the original set as a collectors item.
Ding ding! Watch the price of originals soar.
A battleship is out of place, but a lone shoe isn't? Should of had a shoe and a high heel. One for the boys and one for the girls! hahaha I wish they would keep all the old ones and just add all the new ones.
I agree with lukebandit!
Just add the new tokens and keep all the old ones.
Wish they'd also let you vote for least favorite... that would be the wheelbarrow here, not just for the representation, but it always seemed most awkward to hold. The iron is OK, and I liked all the others.
You are voting for the least favorite. lol
come on,
on the facebook app HN means. Over there you vote for the pieces you want to save or add. The least and most popular of those get the boot or get into the game respectively.
That's right Goewil. On FB it's a vote. On this article it's just a poll.
I agree w/ HN-1448401, the wheelbarrow is awkward to hold an more. I like the ring. It appears to have stable platform and would be easy to grasp.
Monopoly: A game that's fun for everybody for about the first 15 minutes and has somehow persisted over the years because of that first 15 minutes.
Fixed it for you. Personally I used to play two hour games every week. Do not usually have the time to do so now though.
That's because everyone has their own version of the rules, which causes arguments. Each person will want to quit if they can't play the way they always played the game.
We played all the time with our neighbors, because we used our own version of the rules. We place all fines that are payed out, under Free Parking. So when someone lands on it, they get paid. There are many people who won't play if you tell them that's the rule. We also allowed cutting the rate of rent on some players in a collaborative Quid Pro Quo. I have seen people ready to fight because of that, which put a damper on the game as adults.
I guess it does take about 15 minutes before people get ticked off about the rules!!!
If they add the robot, I'll have to go buy the board game AGAIN. But at least there won't be arguments over who gets the car.
I think they should just sell the new piece separately to add to your existing game. But you know they won't.
I've never been a fan of the boot. But it looks like the domestic icons are going. I voted for the helicopter.
What ever happened to the cannon? I have an old Monopoly board game and it has a little cannon as a game piece.
We've substituted in small metal action figures like Dungeons and Dragons fans have. Playing Monopoly as Gandalf is a lot of fun.
Ransom, we substitute Micro Machines in our favorite make & model of car! (I have a gorgeous D&D piece that my husband and-painted especially for me, but it's too precious to use in a game.)
Ransom- my brothers and I would do stuff like that too. Mainly because my brothers would destroy their game pieces when they lost and we had no choice. Just like playing Risk always ended in a global earthquake.
I don't see anything wrong with leaving Monopoly the way it is, seriously. I don't like every piece, but there's nothing wrong with the pieces there.
My favorite is the dog.
Add a gun. Oh wait, Joe Biden will ban it.
A gun and bag of chips would be much more American than an iron or a wheelbarrow.
Didn't there used to be a Colt 45 pistol?
I agree with the people that say leave the game as is.Everybody is always looking for away to make a buck. My vote would be to keep the scotty. My sister loved scotty dogs she had 4 of them. My sister passed away Friday the 18th of Jan. I would like to see them keep this peice in memory of her:)
Who says you have to use the game pieces provided with the game? We used other markers when the originals got "lost."
You know monopoly is a fantasy game because there is a luxury tax and rich people can go to jail.
The GOP Tea Movement is a Koch Monopoly, but they don't go to jail !
No. you know it is a fantasy game because there aren't places like Welfare Way and Redistribution Road.
The Koch brothers are warning that if they have to pay higher taxes, they'll be forced to layoff about 1/2 dozen congressmen.
@economykiller: You need to playThe Game of Life I know it used to have a Giant Poorhouse. I ended up there with a little plastic car car loaded with kids several times.
I miss the horse and rider. That was by far my favorite.
Oh yeah, I forgot about that one.
Agreed that was my favorite. Haven't played for so long though didn't know it wasn't in there anymore
License miniature Django action figures.
Because all kids fight over the car.......eliminate the car!!
I'll miss you, little monopoly iron.
Never fails, someone has to bad mouth a congressman/president and flame about guns. As if the other related posts aren't enough, cmon people this is NOT the place for your opinion about anything except Monopoly! lmao
Guitar sounds cool, monopoly is a great game, my kids , my wife, and I played it for years. we still play around the holidays just because it reminds the kids of when they were little! and yup both of them always wanted the car :)
To avoid confusion, the first part should have said "vote for your least favorite".
Just no cats, there are enough of those on the internet!
The iron was my favorite -- easy to hold and move around.
Add the cat, there's a dog.
How about an (open) laptop? Or a cell phone?
Time for new Monopoly piece control laws!
